Cancer can spread pretty fast if left unchecked. It comes from its deadly ability to go from one organ like breast or prostate to the next likes bone or liver. This process is called metastasis and any strategies to fight cancer need to reduce its pace.

How it works

Cancer metastases use our lymphatic and blood vessels as road to move from one place to the other. Existent blood vessels are, most of the time, not in the immediate area of the tumor. However; the lack of nutrients and oxygen, as the tumor grows, create an environment favorable to send signal to these blood vessels to create new ones that will come closer and feed the tumor. This process is called angiogenesis. This paves the way to infect new organs. more…

The same is true with animals, bacteria and viruses. Suppose we apply this to the origins of cancer. But where does cancer really come from?

Some history

To date, our knowledge on the origins of cancer is focused on a causative agent, the so-called action-reaction theory. An excellent example is cigarette smoking or exposure to industrial compounds for some years. The causative agent produces an increased mutation in the genes of the cells of the lung and causes cancer. 15% of cancer causation is explained by this theory. This developed in the 1950s. But it doesn’t explain treatment resistance, metastasis and cancer recurrence. What behavior of cancer actually kills? more…

Most may be written civilly. But when I read in between the lines I feel cancer patients crying out for help. They are lost and desperate. They are scared of what happens next, the pain cancer has reserved for them and the unspoken end. With a brave front they try to comprehend all these. more…
