Will I get cancer? This question makes us anxious. In our life span, we have a 50 % chance to develop cancer. It isn’t a question of how but more of a when. It isn’t a doomsday prediction though. We may be lucky with a 50% chance of living our life without cancer. With that kind of luck we better prepare. Call it an insurance policy. more…

Breast cancer develops a long time like 20 to 30 years. Research, on the other hand, had discovered that a high level of estrogen in the blood is linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. This is a crucial step to understand how hormones and breast cancer are related. What can be done to lower estrogen in our body? This would be a key in our fight against breast cancer.

Gene and cancer

Cancer research has identified a gene implicated in breast cancer. The gene known as CYP3A is responsible in the catalysis of many reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. Mutation of this gene reduces our risk of developing breast cancer. Mutation somehow slows the activity of the enzyme produced from the CYP3A gene. Consequently, once the gene’s activity slows down our breast cancer risk goes down along with it too. Enlightening, isn’t it? However, the problem is – not all of us have this mutation. more…

Soy, a Potent Functional Food

Our best chance is standard cancer care. To even the odds and have a better chance to beat it, let’s add functional foods to our daily diet. Soy, a potent functional food, had shown to help against prostate cancer. It is processed in different forms such as tofu, soy milk, soy sauce, fermented bean paste, natto, tempeh or miso. We can substitute it for meat or mix it with other ingredients in our cooking. more…

There’d been many years of research, lots of money invested and still no cure! There’d been a lot of talk about new drugs only to find out that it isn’t as good as it promised. There’s something in the new drug that is inefficient.

Why is it so difficult to treat cancer? That is the crucial question. In response, cancer researchers of the planet have desperately brought in new means to fight cancer.
