The cancer patients take alternative medicine for one simple reason: Fear.

All your life you were in a safe place with rules. But cancer changes all that and you start to doubt your principles. This is especially true if your child gets cancer. You are in a very vulnerable state of mind and crook and charlatan will sell you anything expensive to replace that void created by cancer. The Federal trade commission is starting to look at these marketers and sue them for our own protection. Besides the pricey item, they are charging with the dream of a quick cure, however those little magic pills or potions can be quite harmful.

It’s not that all alternative medicines are bad,but most of them are unproven. They have no scientific research to back them up. And even if they do, it is one publication in an obscure journal. Let’s take for example the popular Essiac tea. My team went to a natural store and asked for something against cancer and the clerk produced a little bottle which is the number one seller. Scientifically speaking, some tests were done on the subject. Conclusion, the stuff is safe to drink with no side effect. However, no beneficial result was found. It‘s just an expensive hot water brew. This product is only half bad, it will only hurt your wallet; however some others can be harmful like antioxidant supplements when you are on chemotherapy. Those supplements weaken the efficacy of the chemotherapy agent and compromise the cancer treatment given by your oncologist.

What can we do?

Number 1: Follow the oncologist’s recommendation; they use the state of the art cancer treatment known to date.
Number 2: Do something that had been proven by cancer research. Change your lifestyle and your diet. These two actions are very well documented.

The world cancer research fund has written 9 principles to follow to increase our chance of survival. So exercise 30 min a day, stop smoking and eat a right diet which includes functional foods known to affect cancer cells.

Bottom line

You need to fight back. Don’t let cancer run all over you. You have the weapons available to fight against it. Sure it’s going to be a hard fight, but you may prevail if you give yourself a chance.
