Constructing logistics road to supply cancer cell
This process is to induce of new blood vessels to supply nutrients and lure the immune system. This process is activated by the evolution of cancer. Cancer progression requires a source of nutrition and oxygen. Tumors that outgrow their oxygen supply cannot form masses more than 1 to 2 mm in size, which are undetectable and stay in dormancy state. Cancer cells often adapt by switching on genes that are critical part of this process and induce local small blood vessels and fabricate new one that will nourish the cancer cell and result in an increased ability to invade and to metastasize. The micro tumor signals the nearby blood vessel to grow. A network of capillaries is formed whose purpose is to nourish the cancer.
Antiangiogenesis: one of the ammunitions in functional foods
Somes functional foods inhibit angiogenesis by affecting the signal of the cancer cell or disrupting the newly formed blood vessels. Functional foods have a high degree of antiangiogenic activity and their many other interactions that can inhibit tumor progression and reduce the risk of metastatic cancer.
