Man in sports car

Fast and Furious

One of the treatment regimens of prostate cancer is to lower testosterone levels. It is believed that high testosterone levels in prostate cancer patients increases the aggressiveness of prostate cancer activity.

Cancer treatment

One treatment option for prostate cancer is aimed at blocking the production of testosterone. It includes medications to antagonize the release of Luteinizing hormones which spurs the Leydig cells to manufacture testosterone. Additionally anti-androgens and the female hormone, estrogen are utilized.
It is believed that testosterone makes the cancer cells thrive. Your doctors are intent to keep your levels of testosterone low so you’d have a better survival rate. Wouldn’t you be happy with it? You’d even do anything to keep it low so long as you’d triumph over your fight with prostate cancer.

Is there a problem?

But, supposing driving your sleek hot Porsche sports car provides you with one of those rare pleasures in your life. Supposing, I tell you that it increases your testosterone levels, what would you do? You’d surely say, “You must be kidding!”
Now, I read an article on some enjoyable activities of men particularly driving a sleek Porsche or any hot sports car that reveals it might increase testosterone level. This report really troubles me. It reported that when men drive state of the art and high performing cars their testosterone levels shot up as compared to the testosterone levels of the same men who drove cars that have seen better days.

Testosterone is what identifies a person as a male, increases libido, energy, and gives the secondary sexual characteristics of the male and implicated in prostate cancer.

Jumping to conclusion to fast

If driving a Porsche or the most-up-to date model sport car would increase your testosterone levels and you are on hormone regimen for prostate cancer, this news would be bad. Especially, if you enjoy car racing with the best that there is. And really, you’ve got to stop driving and even sell it, just so you can survive. Maybe, that feeling of euphoria when you’re on the wheel similar to winning a woman from another aggressive male gives you a testosterone high. Either way, high levels of testosterone wreak havoc to your chances of surviving prostate cancer.

The facts

However, I am surprised and relieved when I read the complet study. This research was conducted among university students aged 19-25 years. The result? Testosterone levels don’t necessarily increase when you drive a gleaming Porsche or any other hot sports car. The research reported that testosterone levels increased in saliva only and not in the blood.

Also, another article cites that blood testosterone levels from a professional sports car driver remained the same after a 24 hour test drive.

Bottom line

If you are currently fighting for survival from prostate cancer, I can only tell you there are no study so far which link driving sport car and risk of prostate cancer. If driving your hot sports car makes you happy, go for it. The jury is still out there, and you got to wait for its final say whether driving a sports car will indeed increase your testosterone levels.

Now, I shall keep you posted if there is a definitive relationship between driving a sleek sports car and blood testosterone levels especially for 50-70 year old men on hormone therapy.

Meanwhile, gentlemen enjoy your car!
