BroccolikillerLance Armstrong was lucky. If you know his cancer story, you’d be convinced that broccoli was key to his survival. You’d consider Lance and the vegetable broccoli to be superstars in their own right.

One is not enough

Even so, broccoli alone may not be enough to prevent cancer. Just one weapon to fight a many headed monster is risky. You don’t get out of the house on a bitterly cold winter day with only a hat without gloves, warm coat and boots. You’d freeze to death. The same thing rings true when preventing and battling cancer. Clearly, cancer is a major cause of death in most parts of the world. Mortality statistics reveal that one out of three deaths is due to cancer. Also, cancer inflicts too much suffering.

Cancer is a genetic disease. Generally, this is how most people think. If your dad had it so would you. However, scientific research doesn’t support this way of thinking. Heredity doesn’t necessary give you an ill fated road map to your death bed. Your genes aren’t the most critical factor but rather, what you eat! Your genes would be influenced by what goes through your mouth. However, eating habit are the most important factor. more…

Food_Supplements_Prove_Harmful_cancer
Food supplements including multivitamins and minerals are popularly sold online. Believing the claims of these supplements, unsuspecting cancer patients consume them like magic pills only to end up frustrated when their expectations aren’t fulfilled.

When it comes to cancer prevention, the best is still a diet rich in fruits and vegetables. As I have discussed in an earlier blog, vegetables eaten along with anti-cancer medications proved to be very beneficial in the fight against cancer. But, Vitamin B12, folic acid, even Vitamin A, carotene and Vitamin E proved to be harmful for cancer patients when taken in concentrated and capsule form. more…

prostate_cancer_gene_healthy_diet
Genes are responsible for the expression of our health conditions. Health conscious people, like ourselves are so interested to know the diseases that they may have inherited from their ancestors. Certainly, forewarned is being forearmed. But, be obsessed and anxious, to think that once they have the gene for a certain disease, they are destined to suffer and die as their relatives did. Maybe by inaction! But when I reviewed recent studies, this shouldn’t really be your scenario. I really think that if you have a gene for a certain chronic illness you can prevent its full blown expression. more…
