There’s a great connection between the amounts of fiber we eat and our colon cancer risk. But not all types of fiber are equally effective to prevent the development of colon cancer. People in western countries typically consume more processed foods which are generally low in fiber. Processing of food strips them of their healthy fiber. These processed foods are linked with a higher incidence of bowel cancer. Because all foods with fiber aren’t the same health wise, where can we find the good ones? more…

How much control do we really have over our own lives? Some say our life’s destiny is all written in our genes and we can’t do anything about this. Well, this isn’t true. We can do much about our life’s destiny.

Organisms evolve “consciously,” as our DNAs change in response to its environment. Our cell’s “consciousness” lies in its membrane which contains receptors that pick up various environmental signals. This mechanism controls the “reading” of the genes inside the cell.

We are an extension of our environment. Our environment includes everything we are in and what we do such as our exposure to sunlight, exercise and of course everything we choose to put into our bodies. It includes the food we eat, the air we breathe, the chemicals we lather on our skin and our exposure to toxic chemicals in some other ways. Hence, we control our environment. Further, if we can control our environment we take control of our lives and our destiny too. more…

Breast cancer develops a long time like 20 to 30 years. Research, on the other hand, had discovered that a high level of estrogen in the blood is linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. This is a crucial step to understand how hormones and breast cancer are related. What can be done to lower estrogen in our body? This would be a key in our fight against breast cancer.

Gene and cancer

Cancer research has identified a gene implicated in breast cancer. The gene known as CYP3A is responsible in the catalysis of many reactions involved in drug metabolism and the synthesis of cholesterol, steroids and other lipids. Mutation of this gene reduces our risk of developing breast cancer. Mutation somehow slows the activity of the enzyme produced from the CYP3A gene. Consequently, once the gene’s activity slows down our breast cancer risk goes down along with it too. Enlightening, isn’t it? However, the problem is – not all of us have this mutation. more…

Information is a key element to fight an enemy and increase our chances to win big! In our fight against cancer, most of the information comes from researches of scientists. They are usually published in scientific journals. But like majority of specialists, they mostly talk shop and use a language or terminology that’s alien to most of us to understand. This makes us lose interest in the matter.

In spite of this, a collection or compilation of several studies and the valuable information they offer can greatly help us. more…

Your body is the battleground. You and cancer are engaged in a fatal battle. You’ve got many fronts so does our bitter foe.
The best strategy is to “know thy enemy.” Our victory depends on how we’re able to outwit our adversary. What are our rival’s strengths and weaknesses? What kinds of ammunition does it employ? How would it attack us?
Cancer is our enemy. What is it? How does it grow and survive? How does it decimate its victim? How does it work? more…

We hear the story we’re getting fatter. Fat is an organ that produces hormones. In turn, hormone affects our metabolism. We’re like an organ that easily doubles its size. And soon, we’re overweight. It’s like giving an old product a new look and a better label. Before the industrialization on food, functional foods were an advantage to civilization. These plants proved to be resistant to diseases, have better growth and fertility.
The industrialization of our food production entailed a mass production of foods we consume. Then, our food necessitated processing and standardization. The processing produced new kinds of food that weren’t tested by time. When this happened, many components that had originally been present in our traditional foods were destroyed.
