He was the first to talk about the significance of functional foods in France as early as 20 years ago. Eating right to fight cancer can be a long run in a maze. It’s real difficult to fight cancer with food if we don’t know what they are and where to look for them.

Functional Foods

We know that veggies and fruits cut our cancer risks. The American Cancer Association recommends consuming 5-10 servings of vegetables and fruits daily to prevent us from developing cancer. We’ve got scientific studies telling us that veggies and fruits have phytonutrients that are active against cancer. But we’re turned off when we’re served with plain veggies. Those crunchy junk foods give us a minute of nirvana. Sadly, those veggies lose out in the competition. more…

Cranberries – scientifically named Vacciniun macrocarpon – grow lushly in Northern America and are also known as American cranberry or bog cranberry. Cranberries are functional foods.

Cranberries are used in a variety of American dishes. They are cooked into that sumptuous sauce for that Thanksgiving turkey. Cranberry juice is a popular drink mixed with other fruit juices. This fruit is so useful, why we do not use it all year around. more…

Canto, left, a 27-year-old rhesus monkey, is on a restricted diet, while Owen, 29, is not. The two monkeys are part of a study of the links between diet and aging.

New Studies on monkeys

The NewYork times reported recently that Richard Weindruch’s team for the University of Wisconsin published an ongoing study in the journal Science, showed an increase in life quality for the group that followed the diet than the group who ate the quantity they wanted. The studies had been going since 20 years and should wait till all the monkeys are dead to confirm the conclusion on cancer protection. The study was published midway as the results even now give a clear indication on the difference between the two groups under the study: one with restrictive diet and the other without.  more…

This is the perfect example of the opposite of processed Food. In complete food, the texture and the envelope of the food is there. In processed food or refined food the peel or skin is dissolved or ground to get rid of it. This action takes out most of the vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals that we need as weapons to fight prostate cancer.

cancer-thin-diet

Being at war against cancer, demands to be fit for the task. It’s not about a slim diet, but being smart in what we put in our mouth. Experts agree that people with a BMI between 21 and 23 are in the comfort zone. The reason is quite simple, increase in weight means more body fat which produce cytokine hormone that increase our general state of inflammation. Inflammation is a key process that prostate cancer use to grow. more…

Lance Armstrong’s complete recovery from cancer was a miracle. By reviewing the book: It’s not about the bike: My Journey Back to Life, find out how he beat cancer against all odds. The doctor did give him 3% chance of survival, but to keep Lance’s hope, he told him a 50/50 chance. That very poor prognostic was in relation to the metastatic cancer in the brain. He received a brain surgery before his cancer therapy and the odd thing was that his brain cancer, actually two, was  already dead. His journey was so enlightening that Lance created the Live Strong foundation to help others to cure their cancer as he did. more…

Not less than 30 % of prostate cancer is linked to what you eat and drink every day. For sure, we eat to nourish ourselves and for pleasure. Also food is not a drug our doctor prescribed to cure prostate cancer ; but these numbers are to be well considered. I went last night to the Jazz Festival at Montreal to see Stevie Wonder. I liked the show very much and afterwards I had a little craving and ate two hot dogs and french fries with a soft drink which was very pleasant. But like the show of Stevie Wonder, fast foods don’t have the monopoly of pleasure and so we don’t have to  do it everyday. We have so many choices available at our local grocery store which we can get everyday.
