We may hear aconite called as monkshood, Wolf’s bane, fu-tzu or Fuzi. Its scientific name is Aconitum napellus. In ancient times, aconite was utilized as a medicinal plant among traditional Asian, Greek and Roman medicine. In the mid-20th century as discoveries advanced, its use was replaced for safer and more effective treatment.

Poison on Arrows for Hunting

In much earlier times aconite was used on spears and arrows for hunting and for fighting enemies in battle. During the Roman period, aconite was employed to kill criminals and enemies and was consequently banned. The herb contains a variety of chemical alkaloids that are highly poisonous.

In folklore, wolf’s bane brew was given to transform or treat werewolves. In Greek mythology aconite was used in an attempt to poison Theseus. Wolf’s bane delighted us as we devoured JK Rowling’s series of Harry Potter stories.
There’s a buzz on aconite. Currently, aconite is a common constituent in homeopathy to treat a variety of ailments and conditions. Specifically, it is utilized to treat nerve pain, osteoarthritis and lumbago.It’s utilized to treat cancer in combination with other herbs. There is even an aconite regimen for cancer treatment. However, let’s not be convinced. There is definitely no scientific evidence that aconite prevents or treats cancer.

Aconite is extremely toxic and caustic. It can cause irregular heartbeats, heart failure and death. Traditional Chinese and Indian medicine process the plant to reduce its toxicity. With no quality control, we can’t tell how safe or toxic it is.

Cancer Research

Some studies were conducted to determine aconite’s effect on anesthetics and treatment. But none of the results were recommended as a substitute for conventional medical practice.

Bottom Line

Aconite is a poison, let’s not use it. There are other therapies that are safer and more effective. Standard cancer treatment was developed scientifically over long periods of testing and research and is found effective. Let’s stick to it if we have cancer. Let’s pay attention to our diet too. We fight cancer by consuming 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day can tremendously help. Plus a 30 minutes daily exercise will do the trick.
