Not less than 30 % of prostate cancer is linked to what you eat and drink every day. For sure, we eat to nourish ourselves and for pleasure. Also food is not a drug our doctor prescribed to cure prostate cancer ; but these numbers are to be well considered. I went last night to the Jazz Festival at Montreal to see Stevie Wonder. I liked the show very much and afterwards I had a little craving and ate two hot dogs and french fries with a soft drink which was very pleasant. But like the show of Stevie Wonder, fast foods don’t have the monopoly of pleasure and so we don’t have to  do it everyday. We have so many choices available at our local grocery store which we can get everyday.

How can we protect ourselves?

Prevention is a powerful weapon against prostate cancer. We need to be practical. A little change in our daily diet can bring big dividend later on. Like savings, it’s the little investment you make everyday, that give you the interest at the end. Fruits and vegetables are packed with molecules like antioxidants and phytochemicals active against cancer.

Why fruits and vegetables have phytochemicals?

Plants can’t move, run or protect themselves against the weather, insects, sickness or moat. The only protection the plants have are chemical weapons and the beauty of these chemical weapons is that we are not affected but the cancer cells are.

How can we size our portion?

We can look all the fruits and vegetables individually or we can use the plate size strategy. We need to cover a plate by 2/3 of fruits and vegetables and eat them. Start your meal by eating the vegetable first, so we clean them before we finish our meat portion.
