You might ask, “How can an active life stave off cancer?”

Sedentary bodies results into slow peristaltic movements of the colon. Consequently, cancer-causing chemicals that we ingest through food stay in contact with the mucosa of the colon for an extended time. If this happens, it gives time for these chemicals to create damage to the DNA structure of the mucosa cells. Conversely, physical activity hastens the transit of food from the colon and prevents too much contact of harmful chemicals.

Physical activity reduces weight if we’re obese and maintains our ideal weight. Lack of exercise leads to fat deposits, we become obese with a higher percentage of fat in our bodies. Estrogen, a culprit in most breast cancers, isn’t only produced in the ovary but also in fat tissues. So, being obese means a higher production of hormones. This additional estrogen burden promotes the growth of tumors in the cervix, endometrium, ovaries and breasts. more…

There’s a great connection between the amounts of fiber we eat and our colon cancer risk. But not all types of fiber are equally effective to prevent the development of colon cancer. People in western countries typically consume more processed foods which are generally low in fiber. Processing of food strips them of their healthy fiber. These processed foods are linked with a higher incidence of bowel cancer. Because all foods with fiber aren’t the same health wise, where can we find the good ones? more…

How much control do we really have over our own lives? Some say our life’s destiny is all written in our genes and we can’t do anything about this. Well, this isn’t true. We can do much about our life’s destiny.

Organisms evolve “consciously,” as our DNAs change in response to its environment. Our cell’s “consciousness” lies in its membrane which contains receptors that pick up various environmental signals. This mechanism controls the “reading” of the genes inside the cell.

We are an extension of our environment. Our environment includes everything we are in and what we do such as our exposure to sunlight, exercise and of course everything we choose to put into our bodies. It includes the food we eat, the air we breathe, the chemicals we lather on our skin and our exposure to toxic chemicals in some other ways. Hence, we control our environment. Further, if we can control our environment we take control of our lives and our destiny too. more…
